We’ve all watched as President Donald J. Trump demeans reporters for asking him questions that he doesn’t like. He is the most corrupt, litigious, thin-skinned, and ego-driven occupant of the White House in history. He takes any legitimate criticism of him and tries to portray it as treasonous lies promoted by the “enemies of the people” and the “human scum” that, according to him, comprise the free press. His vile invective is most often targeted at women and reporters of color, although he just called a white male reporter treasonous.
Here is a short list of terms that Trump has used to show his disrespect for reporters.
You’re…
- a terrible person and a terrible reporter
- one of the worst reporters
- a disgrace to our country
- asking stupid questions
- the enemy of the people
- a horror show
- human scum
- treasonous
- disgraceful
- fake news
- not smart
- third-rate
- the worst
- stupid
- nasty
- loser
- piggy
Just once, we’d all like to see some pushback from the White House press corps when the president treats them like a school yard bully. Show some solidarity among reporters and work together to take a stand in some way. Please.
